In the Andean culture, the “Apus” (Gods) are the spirits that protect life, many are represented by mountains and one of the most important is Nevado Salkantay (6.271m/20569ft), one of the most impressive Nevado of the Peruvian Andes and fundamental inspiration for this trek, named as one of the 25 best treks in the world by National Geographic Adventure Travel Magazine.
Over four days, we will cross landscapes of more than 4600 meters, with a spectacular view of the snow-capped Salkantay and other nearby nevados. Then, before our eyes, the landscape changes abruptly to descend into a cloud forest, and leave the arid highlands to introduce among coffee plantations and tropical species. This hike is the perfect alternative to the Inca Trail, as our last camp is located one hour away from the town of Machu Picchu.
